Dagupan extends deadlines for permit renewal, tax payments
Dagupan City (2 February) -- Corporate and individual taxpayers have until February 16 to renew their mayor's permits and pay their respective local business taxes.
The deadline has been moved from January 20, the original date mandated by local business tax ordinance to February 16, with the enactment of City Ordinance No. 1928-2009 authored by Councilor Danilo Torio.
Torio said businesses are meeting difficulties in immediately paying their taxes as required by pertinent tax ordinances.
In enacting the ordinance, the lawmaker explained that the preponderance of major business expenses in December, coupled with the payment of mandatory 13th month pay, bonuses and other incentives and demands of the Christmas holiday requirements posed difficulties for some entrepreneurs to comply with the present business tax payment deadline.
"The city government must extend considerable breathing spell to local entrepreneurs so as to promote the city's economy," Councilor Torio said.
In his State of the City Address, Mayor Fernandez said his administration's objective is to have a healthy, vigorous and growing economy.
"There will be no new taxes in 2009," Fernandez said as he outlined the projects and programs to be funded from the 2009 city budget which totals 448 million pesos, including those sourced from revenue collections.
He said "taxpayers have the right to keep more than what they earned, and that left in their hands, the money will more likely to stimulate Dagupan's local economy." (PIA Pangasinan / CIO) [top]
