Acetylene gang member nabbed
San Fabian, Pangasinan (2 February) -- A suspected member of the notorious acetylene vault cutter gang responsible for a series of pawnshop robberies in Pangasinan was arrested at the town fiesta amusement park here on Tuesday night.
The suspect, Robert Joel Imatong, 29, a half-Pangasinense, half-Igorot, was accosted by policemen on patrol at the fair site when they saw him with a bulging object in his waist that turned out to be a Caliber 45 pistol, with two magazines loaded with six ammunitions, placed in a holster.
Imatong, a native of barangay Cayanga here, presented a license for his firearm but had no permit to carry outside of his residence. He was brought to the police headquarters where the further showed an identification card identifying him as training director of the Pangasinan investigator Security Agency.
It was learned that the suspect had long been under surveillance for his alleged role in robbery of the R.A. Abesamis Pawnshop in Poblacion, San Fabian sometime in November by supposed members of the Acetylene Gang.
A report by the San Fabian Police said that before the pawnshop robbery, Imatong was visited several times in his home by members of the gang.
Seven members of the gang, led by an ex-convict identified as Rogelio Sudaypan, were arrested sometime in December in Dagupan City while planning another robbery. (PIA Pangasinan) [top]
