Zambo Norte to invest P135-M in port complex project
Dipolog City (2 February) -- The provincial board of Zamboanga del Norte is now deliberating on the request of Gov. Rolando E. Yebes for a P 135 million to be invested in a private port complex at Pulauan Port in Dapitan City.
This project, which shall be managed by the Zamboanga Development and Management Corporation (ZDMC), was presented before the members of the provincial board recently.
ADMC president George Aseniero disclosed that the port complex had long been conceived but the implementation was delayed due to capital and permit problems.
"The two planned ports will cost P1.3 billion but the ZMDC has only P250 million. This is why it is open to interested investors," Aseniero said.
Aseniero also told the lawmakers that ZMDC is targeting corn products from Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Lanao del Norte to be brought to the markets in Luzon through the port.
Other than corn, marine products from the province especially "tilapia" could be also brought to the markets not only in Luzon but also in the US through the same port in Dapitan.
The Pulauan Port in Dapitan is one of the nautical highways being developed under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Administration.
Convinced by the benefits the port complex will give the province, Gov. Yebes appealed to the members of the provincial board to study the project so other investors and lending institutions shall also support the project. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
