DOLE awards active PESO managers/H3>

Tacloban City (2 February) -- The Department of Labor & Employment, Regional VIII headed by Regional Director Forter G. Puguon awarded deserving and active PESO Managers, who gave their best for CY2008, with Certificates of Recognition and cash incentives last January 30, 2009 during the culmination program of DOLE's three-day Regional PESO Congress held in Ormoc City.

This was learned from DOLE Information Officer Virgilio A. Doroja, Jr. According to Doroja, during said occasion, livelihood project assistance checks were also awarded to local government units (LGUs) as Accredited Partners (ACPs) for their identified constituent beneficiaries. In receiving said checks, the LGUs were led by Mayor & Mrs. Melchor Nacario of Calbiga, Samar and Samar Board Member Luzviminda Nacario.

The PESO Congress, which was held last January 28-30, was participated in by 78 Public Employment Service Office Managers coming from the different provinces, cities, municipalities and the academe in the region. A number of local government officials, guests and facilitators from DOLE-8 were likewise present in said activity.

Doroja also shared that the PESO Managers formulated and presented their Action Plan for CY 2009, which will serve as road maps in the promotion of employment opportunities for its constituents.

On the second day of the Regional Peso Congress, Ormoc City Mayor Eric Codilla honored the participants with his presence and shared some views on the role of PESO Managers.

On his part, Director Puguon presented the government's Economic Resiliency Plan, DOLE's Contingency Plan, and ultimately, DOLE Regional Office' Contingency Plan for the region in particular, Doroja said. Likewise, Puguon mandated the PESO Managers to identify the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the export oriented establishments in their respective areas who are likely the first to be hit by the present global financial crisis.

It was learned further that the PESO Managers were given updates on the status of Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), regular programs like national skills registration, referral and placement, employment guidance and counseling, DOLE's Philijobnet, as well as labor market information..

On the other hand, the PESO Managers through its PESO Managers Association of Eastern Visayas (PESOMAEV) ratified and adopted the proposed Constitution and By-laws through its President, PESO Manager Noel Arante of Calubian, Doroja concluded. (PIA-8) [top]
