New designates assume post, more Cabinet reshuffle announced
Tacloban City (February 2) - As new appointees assume their new posts on Monday, more reshuffling in the Cabinet has been announced.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde formally assumed his new post on Monday in a formal turn over ceremony held at the New Executive Building in Malacanang.
Secretary Remonde took over the post from Secretary Jesus Dureza who was named as the new Presidential Legal Counsel in lieu of Secretary Sergio Apostol who resigned in September to join Union Bank.
Secretary Remonde's former post as head of the Presidential Management Staff was taken over by former presidential peace adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr.
Meanwhile, President Arroyo has reshuffled key officials of the Department of Transportation and Communications or DOTC.
The President has designated Retired National Police Chief Director Arturo Lomibao as chief of the Land Transportation Office.
He replaces Secretary Alberto Suansing who was appointed as the new chairman of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board.
Chairman Suansing will replace Thompson Lantion who was appointed as undersecretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication.
Moreover, Retired Police Director and former Task Force Hammerhead chief of the defunct Presidential Anti-Crime Commission Reynaldo Berroya, was assigned to head the Metro Rail Transit Corporation.
He replaces Roberto Lastimoso. Malacanang sources, however, did not say if Lastimoso would be given a new post.
The reshuffling or replacement of Cabinet members is being done in order to make government more efficient and more efficient, the same Malacanang source said. (PIA 8) [top]
