4,000 young girls join 49th GSP provincial encampment

Tuguegarao City (2 February) -- More than 4,000 young lady campers participated in the 4-day camping activities in observance of the 49th Girl Scout of the Philippines Provincial Encampment held at Brgy. Bayo, Iguig, Cagayan recently.

With the theme: "Girls Worldwide Say…Many But One", Governor Alvaro 'Bong' Antonio, inspired the campers to be one in body and one voice to mould the youth towards the development of the society.

In his message read by his daughter and Executive Assistant Criselda Antonio, Gov. Antonio said GSP is an institution that has become an indispensable part of youth development.

"The role of the GSP Council can never be underestimated because for years, scouting has proven to be an effective tool for educating the young," he said.

In an interview, the girl scout said they learned the value of leadership and responsibility, the value of leading and following, the value of sharing, friendship, camaraderie, teamwork, resourcefulness, alertness and respect for others.

Dr. Marietta L. Tumaneng, Schools Division Superintendent and GSP Council President-Cagayan Chapter, prepared a series of activities for the campers geared to mould and strengthen their values and become strong individuals.

Tumaneng also assured the security and safety of the camping site as the PNP-Cagayan deployed 30 policemen to secure the area with medical teams to oversee the health conditions of the girl scouts. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
