Tuguegarao City (2 February) -- The Department of Education Region 02 attended two-day Workshop at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Tagaytay City to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the Random Drug Testing (RDT) for students in all private and public secondary schools starting February this year.
Dr. Romeo L. Malenab, chief of the Elementary Education Division; Mrs. Vilma A. Buraga, chief of the Secondary Education Division; Mr. Mateo Macabadbad, chief of Alternative Learning System and Dr. Jean Solomon, chief of the Health and Nutrition Division attended the said work conference.
In an interview with SED chief, Vilma A. Buraga, she stressed that the work conference was necessary as they were equipped with the mechanics and preparatory activities as well as the tentative schedule of RDT in the region.
She said the random drug test is a means to prevent drop outs in schools as the DepEd can take necessary actions for the students who will be found positive taking drugs.
Students found positive of using illegal drugs will be kept confidential. They will also undergo counseling and rehabilitation through the assistance of DepEd and other agencies, Buraga added.
