Mayor commends Santiago folks for awards and recognition won in 2008

Santiago City, Isabela (2 February) -- In her State of the City Address (SOCA) City Mayor Amelita Navarro enumerated the awards and recognitions earned by the city last year which she attributed to the sacrifices of all Santiaguenos.

Mayor Amelita Navarro said that through the concerted efforts of the city and barangay officials and employees, the Pattaradday Festival is now a Hall of Fame Awardee for garnering the Most Outstanding Tourism Event in the Philippines for three consecutive years.

Last year, the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) has chosen Santiago City as the venue for Indigenous People's Month celebration dubbed as Timpuyog 2008.

The event gathered and showcased sixteen indigenous people's groups in the entire country making the city as one of the tourism destinations in the whole island of Luzon by Department of Tourism (DOT).

Mayor Navarro said that the city is now a finalist to the national Search for Most Child Friendly City in the Philippines and she expressed thanks to barangay and school officials for their cooperation and involvement for the welfare of children.

The Santiago City Police Office is also one of the three contenders on PNP's Best of Bests Search for Most Outstanding Police Office entire the country.

Navarro also said that Santiago City is the country's Best Financially Managed Local Government Unit.

On regional level awards, Mayor Navarro said that barangay Rizal was regarded as Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa being a Hall of Fame, Felimon A. Baniaga as Oustanding Barangay Tanod (City Category) Barangay Rizal Barangay Tanod Team (City Category), Martina Domingo as Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (City Category), Delia Dimla of barangay Calaocan as Outstanding Barangay Midwife and Casimiro Vallejo of barangay Rosario as Outstanding Barangay Human Rights Action Officer.

"Santiago City has also won twice the Green Banner Award or Best Nutrition Program implementation in region 2 (City Level) and expect that to get Crown Award equivalent to that Hall of Fame Award," Mayor Navarro said.
