Marines back DepEd Love Drive program in Basilan

Isabela City de Basilan (3 February) -- The 1st Marine Brigade in Basilan under Brig.Gen. Rustico O. Guerrero AFP through its Civil Military Operation (CMO) Officer Capt. Berman H. Bairulla PN(M) joined in the "Love Drive" program of the Isabela City Schools Division last week in a remote barangay of the city.

Together with the entire personnel of the Isabela City Schools Division Health and Nutrition section headed by its Nurse in charge Mrs. Mary Joy R. Luzon and the City School Division Superintendent Hja. Hilda U. Babon, the annual love drive coupled with medical and dental outreach services were conducted.

The medical and dental services were provided in partnership with the Naval Forces Western Mindanao Dental Team led by Capt. Jose P. Escorpico (DS)PN and a private medical practitioner, Dr. Paul Rashid Uy.

The program was held at the remote Calvario Peak Elementary School, Brgy Kapatagan Grande, Isabela City on January 29, 2009 with 260 kinder and elementary pupils, to include some 40 high school students as beneficiaries.

During the activity, the organizers served some 300 food pack containing 1 kilo of rice, sardines, noodles, ovaltine drink in sachet. Snack packs were also distributed.

Some 40 elementary pupils benefited from tooth extraction performed by Capt Escorpico and some 31 pupils also benefited from medical consultation with free medicines conducted by Dr Uy.

Worn-out slippers were also replaced with some 200 pairs given to selected elementary pupils hoping to provide comfort and encourage them to attend school.

In her message during the activity's opening program, Hja Babon commended Mrs Luzon and the other Staff Nurses who were responsible for the preparation and spearheading the program that brings joy to the school children.

Meanwhile, Mrs Josefina Bacolod, the school Principal expressed deep gratitude to all government agencies, officials and private individuals who contributed and supported this endeavor.

Other guests that were present in the occasion were: Mrs Florencia Ramirez, Schools Div supervisor; Mr. Abdurajik Kani, PESS; Hja Mariam Sakkalahul, wife of Vice Governor; Mr. Reynaldo Jalao, Isabela North District Supervisor and Brgy Chairman Hon. Eddie Q Tipuan.

Personnel of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 (MBLT1) under its newly installed Commander LTC Fernando Gomez (GSC) PN(M) also provided security along the route and also at the vicinity of the school while the program is on going. (4CRG/PIA BASULTA) [top]
