Tacloban City (3 February) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth is currently celebrating its 14th year as the premier government corporation tasked to spearhead the implementation of the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP).
Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared February of each year as NHIP Month through Proclamation No. 1400 issued last October 2007. The Proclamation was issued in recognition of the vital role that the program plays in every Filipino's life.
To boost the observance of the program, all departments, local government units, government owned and controlled corporations, government financing institutions, as well as the mass media and the entire citizenry are encouraged to extend their whole hearted support and cooperation to the program by participating in whatever activity PhilHealth has prepared in observance of the program.
Relative to the celebration, the different government entities are encouraged to produce and display PhilHealth's anniversary streamers in their respective areas. The display of said streamers will generate increased awareness of PhilHealth not only among the employees but also among the clients and stakeholders as well.
To give meaning to the event, there will be a motorcade around the City of Tacloban on February 10, 2009 and will start at 8:30 a.m. The different government offices in the region are encouraged to participate in said motorcade which will take off at the Leyte Provincial Capitol and end at the Rizal Park wherein a short program will take place.
On the evening of February 10, PhilHealth sponsored a Stakeholders' Night at Hotel Alejandro wherein heads of the different government institutions are invited.
The month of February of every year has been declared as the National Health Insurance Month to mark a significant milestone in efforts of the Philippine government to initiate a mechanism for providing social health insurance to the Filipino people. Further, it aims to stimulate public awareness on the issues involving social health insurance and to encourage each of its partners in taking on its role to ensure success of the NHI program.
