PIA Press Release

OTI OTOP showroom now accepts orders

Davao City (4 February) -- THE showroom for the various products under the One Town One Product (OTOP) program installed in Davao City is opening doors of opportunities for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide.

The OTOP program is a business development strategy that aims to promote countryside development by promoting the MSMEs involved in the production of goods and services from indigenous raw materials and/or skills. The program is patterned after the highly successful One-Village-One-Product (OVOP) program in Japan where the local government and private sector (represented by the various industry/trade organizations, chambers of commerce and industry, peoples' organizations, BDS providers, etc.) play major roles.

The Davao Showroom, on the other hand, features products from all over the country ranging from food to gifts to furnishings and accessories and was launched during the fourth quarter of last year with the aim to widen the market of locally-produced goods. It is located at the second floor of Mintrade Building, corner Monteverde Avenue and Sales Street, same building with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 Office. It is open daily, from 8:00am to 5:00pm except on Saturday, Sunday, and during holidays.

DTI 11 Regional Director Marizon S. Loreto said that since the Davao Showroom is now accepting product orders from interested buyers, MSMEs who have products there can actually have a chance to widen their markets.

"This is somehow a business-matching initiative of the agency. Since we have most of the OTOPs of all areas in the country, our potential buyers have an array of choices. So, once they visit the showroom, they would really find something to buy," Loreto said.

Order bookings shall be taken by a DTI staff assigned and shall be relayed to the producers concerned immediately. For negotiations, DTI can arrange a meeting between the buyers and MSMEs.

"The setting-up of the showroom is actually a marketing tool where DTI can promote the products of its SME clients. This is a mechanism where we can make our MSMEs meet potential buyers," she said.

Loreto added that the showroom, considering its strategic location, can actually be a potential destination where guests, investors, and some other businessmen converge for possible business transactions.

Moreover, with the facility, DTI has also been given another avenue in promoting, marketing, and advertising the products of the MSMEs throughout the country.

"And that's the good thing about the showroom, we don't only focus on Davao-made products but as well as the pride of other regions," she said.

Loreto is optimistic the showroom will really serve its purpose. (DTI-PIA XI) [top]
