National Arts Month begins

Davao City (4 February) -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has kicked off its National Arts Month-Philippine International Arts Festival (NAM-PIAF) 2009 with a series of activities and programs across the country that celebrates Filipino artistry in different mediums of art.
With the theme "Ari ng Sining" the PIAF has evolved from Manila-centered activities to a truly national event with key activities happening in the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and has involved hundreds of artists from various disciplines of arts and reaching out to thousands of people from all walks of life not just from the country but also all over the world.
Anticipated activities in the NAM-PIAF includes Ani ng Sining Launching, PA (ng)LABAS- a lecture forum on architecture in film, Walai-Vernacular Architecture of Mindanao- drawing and photography exhibit of the vernacular houses of Mindanao, Sinerehiyon-showcase of differenc nascent cinemas in the region.
Sinerehiyon gets to showcase Dabawenyo filmmakers representing Davao Cinema sourced from the NCCA supported Mindanao Film Festival.
Other activities include Sayaw Pinoy, Tanghal: the 3rd National University Theater Festival, Taboan: Philippine Writers Festival, Organik Muzik, which will feature Dabawenyo Popong Landero as one of the artists and the Philippine Visual Arts Fest.
In support of the NAM-PIAF the Department of Interior and Local Government or DILG through Memorandum Circular 2009-04 signed by Secretary Ronaldo Puno has encouraged to undertake activities that will enhance the Filipinos' understanding and appreciation of arts and culture.
According to the DILG circular the Provinces, cities and municipalities may choose their own sub-them that is most relevant to the local conditions and community aspirations. (PIA XI) [top]
