PGMA gives 7 more patrol cars to Eastern Samar PNP

By Alice Nicart

Borongan City (4 February) -- Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo awarded seven more PNP patrol cars to the Eastern Samar Philippine National Police Provincial Headquarters (PNP HQs). This, during the turn-over ceremony today at the lobby of the Provincial Capitol.

Prior to the formal turn-over, Rev. Fr. Arturo Gonzales blessed the six Izuzu Toyota jeeps and one Innova which was witnessed by Deputy PNP Regional Director Rey Lanada, Governor Ben Evardone, DILG Provincial Director Manuel Lagrimas, the seven municipal chiefs of police who were the direct recipient and a host of PNP personnel.

Gov. Evardone was proud to announce to the peace officers that in the entire country, only his province has so far completed the vehicle requirement of the PNP; except of course for Maslog and Jipapad towns which are still problematic in terms of accessibility.

"Let us be thankful to the President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for always granting our request. We are also thankful to DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno, PNP Chief Jesus Versoza, Police Regional Director Abner Cabalquinto for their continuing support to our peace initiatives," Evardone said in his message.

He added that the vehicles should be maintained properly and hopes further that since the people expect so much of the PNP performance, these mobility should not be utilized for plain fiesta attendances where PNP personnel in the past were reportedly used to drink liquor with gusto. On other hand, policemen can go to fiestas with the PNP car but they should go primarily for official or patrol operations, Evardone quipped.

The following towns through their chiefs of police received brand new Izuzu Toyota Jeeps: Oras, San Policarpo, Can-avid, Giporlos, San Julian and Taft. LLorente town exceptionally got an Innova.

Last year, other municipal offices received multicabs and motorcycles from President Arroyo. (PIA-Eastern Samar) [top]
