RG Zaldy Ampatuan assures no retrenchment of workers in the ARMM
Koronadal City (4 February) -- Amid the mass lay-off of workers in many business firms and companies due to global economic recession, there will be no retrenchment in the autonomous region. This was the assurance made by ARMM Regional Governor Zaldy Ampatuan.
Secretary Antonio Mariano of the Department of Labor & Employment in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOLE-ARMM) said, the regional governor is concerned with the plight of workers if they their jobs.
"Mabait si Regional Governor Ampatuan, ayaw niyang mawawalan ng trabaho ang mga manggagawa and he advised me that there will be no retrenchment," Mariano said.
The instructions of the regional governor, Mariano said, is to come up with a win-win solution.
One step that they are considering is to lessen the number of working hours from maybe four to six hours, he said.
Mariano said, this way, business companies would save on expenses such as light bills, but what is important is for the workers to have jobs.
Aside from this, DOLE-ARMM will also recommend to the Regional Board of Investment (RBOI) of the private business firms with tax holiday to be able to cope up somehow with global financial crisis, the officials said.
As this developed, the ARMM labor secretary urged the private employees to be diligent and not expect any wage increase as this point in time.
So far, they have not received reports of any closure of business companies and retrenchment of private employees, he added. (PBC/PIA Cot City) [top]
