DAR 8 welcomes new regional director
Tacloban City (February 5) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform Regional Office 8 has a new Regional Director.
Regional Director John M. Maruhom, 50, formally assumed office on February 4 after a turn over ceremony on February 3, Mr. Jose Alsmith L. Soria, DAR Regional Information Officer, said.
Director Maruhom replaced Director Homer Tobias who was transferred to Region 1.
Mr. Soria said that for the first time in the history of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Region-8, a Muslim is designated Regional Director here based on Special Order No. 1 issued by Agrarian Secretary Nasser Pangandaman on January 4, 2009.
In his acceptance, Director Maruhom emphasized his administration's priorities among which is to improve the ratings of agrarian reform communities (ARCs) as reflected in the Assessment on the Level of Development of ARCs (ALDA).
He encouraged his new set of personnel to be united and work together to further improve the quality of life of the agrarian reform beneficiaries.
According to him, he expects employees to be pro-active, and emphasized that he hates to see personnel staying idle.
He also stressed that he is not the type of a leader who is insecure of subordinates "better" than him. Rather, he said, he would be happy to work with these kind of employees because he would be assured of better quality of accomplishments.
Director Maruhom who was formerly assigned in Region 10, becomes Region-8's 14th DAR Regional Director since the agency was created on September 10, 1971 by virtue of Republic Act No. 6389. (PIA 8) [top]
