NVizcaya LGU wins case on amusement tax from resorts
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (5 February) -- The provincial government here recently won a case before the Court of Appeals in its bid to exact amusement tax from resort owners in the province.
Lawyer Epifanio Lambert Galima, one of the legal counsels of the provincial government said the CA in its January 2009 decision upheld its right to collect amusement tax from resort owners in the province.
"This will enable us to collect taxes from resort owners since 2004 and onwards," Galima said.
He said the new tax program will boost the financial capability of the provincial government to provide more projects for the benefit of Novo Vizcayanos.
The amusement tax ordinance of the province was approved in 2004 but before its enforcement, resort owners questioned its constitutionality and legality before the Regional Trial Court(RTC) and won, prompting the provincial government to file their appeal before the CA. (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
