PCAMRD, NFRDI call for papers for First National Siganid Summit
Los Banos, Laguna (5 February) -- The National Fisheries and Development Institute (NFRDI) of the Department of Agriculture and the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD) of the Department of Science and Technology will conduct the “First National Siganid (Rabbitfish) Summit at the Asian Fisheries Academy, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City tentatively set on February 26-27, 2009.
The summit aims to gather information on the available knowledge and technologies on siganids (Siganus spp.), identify gaps in the development of siganid hatchery and culture industry, identify strategies for the formulation of a five-year road map for the industry, and prepare a resolution for the promotion of siganid as high-value cultivable species.
A dialogue for the development of the siganid industry will be conducted. This will be followed by technical sessions which will focus on the broodstock development and hatchery techniques, feed quality and nutrition standards, culture techniques, disease and emergency preparedness, and extension and best aquaculture practices, postharvest, market and trade, and promotion of siganids as high-value cultivable species.
