PhilHealth spearheads celebration of February as Nat'l Health Insurance Month

Tacloban City (February 7) -- Celebrating its 14th year as the premiere government corporation tasked to spearhead the implementation of the National Health Insurance Program, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is spearheading the celebration of the month of February as the National Health Insurance Month..

This is pursuant to Proclamation NO. 1400 issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in October of 2007, in recognition of the vital role that the program plays in the life of every Filipino.

In issuing the said Proclamation, President Arroyo took cognizance of the fact that it is in the national interest to stimulate public awareness on the issues involving social health insurance and to encourage each partners in taking on their respective roles to ensure the success of the National Health Insurance program.

Dr. Rey B. Aquino, PhilHealth President and CEO, said that the month-long celebration will certainly generate heightened awareness of PhilHealth not only among employees but among all stakeholders and clients.

The National Health Insurance Month is also an occasion to highlight the significant milestones of Philhealth in the efforts of the Philippine Government to institute a mechanism for providing social health insurance to the Filipino people.

Fourteen years after its creation, Philhealth is set to continue its mandate of universal social health insurance with its coverage of the employed in the government and private sectors, the poor, the informal sector, overseas workers and retirees.

In order to provide greater and wider interest about the month-long activity, PhilHealth is enlisting the support of all of the various government agencies through the production and display of the event streamers in their respective office buildings.

PhilHealth is an attached agency of the Department of Health. (PIA 8) [top]
