Zambo City commemorates Dia de Roseller Lim
Zamboanga City (February 9) -- This city commemorates today "Dia de Roseller T. Lim" in honor of the 94th birth anniversary of the late Senator Roseller Lim, the first and only Zamboangueno senator who was revered as the great filibuster.
Mayor Celso Lobregat spearheaded the activities today which kicked off with a commemorative mass at the St. Joseph Church at 8 a.m.
The highlights of the observance will be the Awarding ceremony for the Five Outstanding Zamboangueno Young Leaders who will be conferred with the Senator Roseller T. Lim Award and the unveiling of the R.T. Lim monument at the Normal Road, R.T. Lim Boulevard.
Now on its second year, the Senator Roseller T. Lim Award is a joint project of the city government and the JCI Zamboanga. It is conferred on youths who possess qualities of leadership, excellence and commitment to service epitomized by the late Sen. Lim. It will be held at the Orchid Ballroom at 7 tonight.
The unveiling ceremony on the other hand was held at 10:00 this morning and will be followed by the wreath laying ceremony.
The observance of Dia de Roseller T. Lim is based on Ordinance 283 authored by Councilor Rodolfo Lim, nephew of the late senator.
The late senator's daughter and brother, Rosamy Lim and Atty. Rosegildo Lim, respectively, will give their messages during the unveiling ceremony this morning.
In the awarding ceremony tonight, Mayor Lobregat will be assisted by Councilor Lim and JCI Zamboanga president Atty. David Oliver Kong in conferring the Senator Roseller Lim Award to the five young Zamboangueno leaders. (CIO/ PIA ZC) [top]
