Army holds youth leadership summit
San Mariano, Isabela (9 February) -- The Army's 5th Infantry Division's 45th Infantry Battalion based in this town has gathered a number of youth leaders particularly the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairmen and high school student council leaders to undergo a 3-day youth leadership summit from February 6-9 this month.
45IB Commander Col. Generoso Ponio said that the activity is part of the army's Civil Military Operations regular programs and activities through meeting all sectors of the community.
Col. Ponio said the objective of the youth leadership summit is to strengthen the leadership potentials of the youth as well as to inform them of the various dangers plugging the youth of today.
He said that the participants will be informed on the ill-effects of illegal drugs, the anti-criminality campaign and also teach them moral values.
The youth leadership summit also aims to enlighten youth to draw away from membership to militant organizations or the New People's Army because they are the target of this organizations for they know that youth are easily swayed.
The 3-day youth leadership summit is sponsored by the 5th ID in coordination with the local government of San Mariano.
Resource speakers to this summit will be the Division's G7 chief Lt. Col. Loreto Magundayao, San Mariano SK Federation President Joshua Miranda and a representative for the National Youth Commission. (PIA Isabela) [top]
