Tuguegarao to establish barangay anti-drug abuse council

Tuguegarao City (9 February) -- The City Council is pushing the passage of a resolution requiring every barangay within the City of Tuguegarao to establish a Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC).

Hon Eliseo B. Ave, City Councilor, said the resolution aims to establish anti-dug abuse councils that will plan, strategize, implement and evaluate programs and projects on drug abuse prevention in the barangay level.

Ave said this move is the city government's contribution in support to the President's fighting against illegal drugs and declare every Barangay as drug free zones.

"We join the national government in the war against illegal drugs and in suppressing the illegal drug industries that continues to destroy the lives of the people," Ave stressed.

In the resolution, the BADAC will coordinate and collaborate with other institutions that implements programs and projects on drug abuse at the Barangay level.

The council will further do the gathering and updating of data on drug abuse and its effect on the peace and order situation in the barangays including listing of drug users and pushers.

Ave further discussed that the BADAC will also do the referral of users and pushers to the police and other institutions for corresponding sanctions, rehabilitation and/or counseling.

The BADAC will also submit a monthly report at the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council through the City Interior and Local Government (CILG).

"The Barangay Based Institutions and the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council of Tuguegarao City will be institutionalized, established and revitalized consistent to lawful bases," Ave added.

Ave explained that the Committee on Barangay Affairs found out that the resolution is consistent to existing laws related to Anti-Drug measures of the country that's why there is no reason for the body not to approve it. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
