Newly-repaired bridge soon to open to motorists - DPWH

Echague, Isabela (9 February) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 4th Engineering District announced the opening of the newly repaired bridge to motorists of Cagayan Valley at the end of this month.

Engr. Wilfredo Enciso, 4th Engineering District chief said that Ipil bridge which has undergone major repair on its floors for almost four months will be opened for public use by light vehicles effective February 27, 2009.

Engr. Enciso emphasized that only light vehicles are allowed to use the bridge and has temporarily prohibited heavy loaded vehicles to pass through the bridge to prevent future damages on the newly concreted floors which are still not completely dried.

In October last year, the bridge was closed for repair by 4th Engineering District and has temporarily diverted routes for light motorists plying to the southern part of Isabela and its nearby provinces.

Since then, the DPWH advised that heavy vehicles coming from Northern Isabela and Cagayan province to take the Alicia-San Mateo national road since the temporary diverted road cannot accommodate big and long vehicles and Macalaoat Bridge in Cabatuan, Isabela is also undergoing major repairs.

Since the Ipil bridge will be passable at the end of this month, many motorists and passengers are confident that the traffic flow will continue without no more interruptions in order that travel time will be reduced to their destinations. (PIA Isabela) [top]
