Transport sector affect tourism industry in Batanes
Basco, Batanes (9 February) -- The suspension of MLA-BSO-MLA flights last month has greatly affected the volume and schedule of tourists and local passengers to and from Batanes most especially those who book at ZestAir before January 1, 2009.
The advisory on flight suspension was issued on the eve of January 12. Although ZestAir coordinated with alternative airline operator SeAir to accommodate the displaced passengers, still it was a problem because only one additional flight was added to SeAir's regular flights every Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. However this month SeAir makes five flights a week with higher rate than ZestAir.
ZestAir's flight suspension was attributed to aircraft situation.
Meanwhile, sea transport to island the municipality of Sabtang also became a concern when tourists delay their arrival in the port.
It was recommended that tour guides should be strict with the time schedule of tourists to beat motorboat trip schedule and weather condition, including the accommodation sector who arrange the tour package and the sea transport operator.
Tourists who wish to go to Ityabat have only one option, to take to 4-hour motorboat while the Ityabat airport is under completion. Because of this some tourists declined to visit Ityabat. Only the Iyabat natives dare the waves for 4-hours at sea. (PIA Batanes) [top]
