Gov't agencies, LGUs rallied on more transparency
Iloilo City (9 February) -- Government agencies and local government units are urged to make government services, programs and projects more transparent to the public.
Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Raul Banias, in a forum with the regional directors, agency project officers and information officers, including local government units, on the branding of government programs ad projects, said the people must know where their taxes go and where and who the "Katas ng VAT" are benefiting.
Banias said in the spirit of transparency it is the duty of government agencies to inform the people of ongoing and completed programs and projects.
"It is also important that the people should know who are behind the implementation of programs and projects and the benefits that are being enjoyed," Banias said.
He further said that branding is making attributions as to the implementers of projects which will enable the people to monitor its progress from start to finish and for them to watch out for anomalies.
Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 6 Dir. Janet Mesa said this effort at transparency is embodied in memo circular 156 which requires agencies and LGUs to properly attribute implementation of government programs. (ESS/PIA 6) [top]
