BIR Dipolog tops tax collection in Region 9
Dapitan City (9 February) -- For exceeding its target collection by.067 percent for 2008, the Bureau of Internal Revenue District 91 based in this city has again emerged as number one in the entire Zamboanga peninsula.
Revenue District Officer Cres A. Agad disclosed that his office had been given a tax collection goal of P503.8 million by the Department of Finance (DOF) for 2008. Yet, his office exceeded the target and hit the 504.1 million collection, registering an excess of P337,168.18.
According to Rudy Suello, administrative officer of BIR office here, the collection target set by the DOF was so big. "We all doubted we could meet the tax collection target," he said.
"It's a big responsibility and the RDO has to adopt certain strategies to realize the tax collection target," said Suello adding that in November last year "our collection went down and we still lacked P90 million to reach the target."
Some strategies adopted included the conduct of conferences with the business sector and soliciting help from the municipal mayors in urging the businessmen in their respective municipalities to pay their taxes.
It could be recalled that BIR District 91 here was a Top Performer Awardee in the country in 2006. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
