Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Week set February 8-14

by Degs Duron

Davao City (11 February) -- Through Proclamation No. 731, the nation will mark the observance of the 13th National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on February 8 to 14.

With its theme, Sekswal na Pang-aabuso sa Bata, Nangyayari Saan Man: Karahasang Dapat Wakasan, the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) will spearhead the event.

According to Undersecretary Aicia R. Bala of DSWD, the annual observance aims to promote awareness on the problem of child sexual abuse and exploitation, and advocate respect for laws and ordinances on children.

Usec Bala urges all sectors and organizations to initiate activities and participate in the various undertakings related to child protection.

Supporting the RSCWC are Non-Government Organizations, Private Groups, DepEd, DSWD, DOH, PNP, DILG, DOLE, PIA, DOTC, Council for the Welfare of Children, Media Partners, other Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children (BCPC).

Meanwhile, DXRD Sonshine Radio, DXDC RMN and Bombo Radyo will each host a one-hour radio program for the celebration. Sonshine TV will likewise feature the event. Catering to disadvantaged children, DSWD Centers and Institutions will conduct a film showing, forum and lectures. The non-government groups have also organized a motorcade to highlight the weeklong observance. (DSWD/PIA XI) [top]
