Catbalogan City (February 11) -- Some P6-M is in store for the Samar Provincial Hospital and Calbayog District Hospital.
This was bared by Integrated Provincial Health Officer 11 Dr. Dulce Cernal in an interview yesterday, February 10, 2009 in her office.
Cernal said that the fund is still with the Center for Health and Development (CHD 08) but will soon be downloaded as the province has complied with the requirements.
The fund will be used for the upgrading of hospital facilities.
However, Cernal could not yet reveal as to the itemized objects in which the fund will be used.
It will be recalled that Samar's health services has been wanting in the past couple of years that Samarnons who have the means just patronize Tacloban City hospitals.
In 2007, CHD 08 reported that three provincial hospitals namely the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital, the Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital and the Western Leyte Provincial Hospital in Baybay have already been upgraded using the same scheme.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque lll, then in his visit to Eastern Visayas in 2007 thanked the President and the members of Congress for prioritizing health in the 2008 budget.
It is the marching order of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to upgrade the local government hospitals, Secretary Duque added and so for 2008, P1.3 billion has been earmarked by the national government for the upgrading of hospitals in the country.
Aside from the fund amounting to millions, DOH-CHD 8 also supports the provincial hospital with medicines, vaccines, forms syringes even personal computers and printers, Cernal added.
Cernal said that presently, the provincial hospital is undergoing a process that will really help Samarnons cope up with their health problems.
With the return of Governor Milagrosa Tan to post, Cernal is hopeful that the reinvigorated spirit of Tan will be open to her proposals as regards public health concerns. (PIA-Samar) [top]
