UP Los Baņos to assist nutrition program implementation in Southern Leyte
Maasin City, Southern Leyte (11 February) -- The Institute of Human Nutrition and Food of the University of the Philippines-Los Baņos' College of Human Ecology was commissioned by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to assist the nutrition program implementation in Southern Leyte.
Nilda M. Rich, Provincial Nutritionist and Provincial Nutrition Council member reported that UP-Los Baņos will implement the project "Capacity Building of Local Nutrition Workers towards an Improved Management of Nutrition Program" which will be led by the IHNF.
The goal of the said project, Rich said, is to provide assistance to the Local Government Units (LGUs) through capacity building of local nutrition workers to enable them to assess, plan, implement and manage nutrition program.
The project involves the implementation of three major activities such as, training needs assessment; development and updating of manuals; and third is the training of key sub-national nutrition workers on nutrition program management and basic course and continuing education of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).
Southern Leyte which had been randomly selected as the study area has been tasked to invite active Municipal Nutrition Action Officers throughout the province to attend the group discussion scheduled this month at the RKK Function House, Barangay Mambajao here.
Expected to carry out the activity are UP-Los Baņos Research Assistant Maribel B. Almanza together with Angelina dR. Felix, Study Leader and Liezl Atienza, Asst. Study Study Leader who will facilitate the group discussion who will be assisted by Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Noel P. Lumen and Ms. Rich. (rgcadavos, PIA-Soleyte) [top]
