Comelec conducts validation of voters
Tacloban City (February 11) -- The city and municipal COMELEC offices are currently conducting validation of registered voters, the legal division of the Comelec Regional Office informed.
Voters who registered before the Comelec upgrading the electoral system by adopting the biometrics system in the registration of voters, must go to the respective Comelec offices for validation of their registration.
Comelec Region 8 legal officer, Atty. Alvin Japzon, said that the photo, thumb print and signature of the voter must be captured by the biometrics machine.
Validation of voter is important, Atty. Japzon said. This will ensure that the voter is included in the database of the Commision on Elections.
Atty. Japzon said that new Comelec ID cards of the voter will have to be made at the Comelec Central Office and will be given to the voter as soon as it is ready. The voter will have to pick it up from the Comelec office where he or she went for validation.
Atty. Japzon called on the registered voters to visit their respective Comelec offices for validation.
The continued use of biometrics technology in the registration process is a manifestation that the Commission is determined to purge the voters list.
The use of biometric data capturing machine, where the voters' identity will be captured and stored in databases through fingerprints and signatures, guarantees an accurate voters' list.
In addition, this move is also part of the poll body's efforts to ensure the success of the 2010 national and local elections.
Aside from validation of voters, the Comelec is also conducting a continuing registration of voters for those who have just reached the voting age; transfer of Registration records; reactivation and changes and corrections of entries in the registration records; inclusion of registration records; and reinstatement of name in the list of voters.
