Rotarians share gifts for seniors at DSWD's home for the elderly

Zamboanga City (12 February) -- The Rotary Club of Zamboanga City West as well as the Rotary Ans visited the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Home For the Elderly in Talon-Talon, this city on February 6, 2009, bringing with them food, clothing and other goodies for the senior wards of the center.

Mr. Butch Blanco, Rotary Club West President said that this is a yearly activity undertaken by the Rotarians to bring good cheers to the wards of the Home.

Upon their arrival, the seniors were very excited and gathered at the mess hall of the center for a short program. Ms. Tess Suanco, Rotary Ans West president expressed her elation over the warm reception that they receive whenever they visit the center.

The Rotarians also handed over 2 new wheelchairs, pajamas, and dresses to the wards of the center. They also personally served hot meals, bread as well as drinks to the seniors.

In return, the seniors entertained the visitors with song numbers.

This gift-giving activity is done yearly for 20 years by the Rotarians to somehow entertain and share their blessings with the vulnerable sector of the community.

The Home for the Elderly is a residential facility catering to abandoned, unattached and homeless older persons in the region and other provinces and cities.
