Southern Leyte (12 February) -- The PhilHealth Service Office here will give due recognition to the provincial government of Southern Leyte and selected local government unit (LGU) in the issuance of PhilHealth cards to indigent families in the province as they will observe the 14th anniversary celebration of PhilHealth on February 17 in Southern Leyte.
In an interview with PIA Maasin, PhilHealth Provincial Head Misael Paigan further disclosed that another highlight of the anniversary celebration will be the launching of Oplan Universal Coverage which will follow right after the conduct of a motorcade and a press conference later with the local media in the morning.
PhilHealth Service Office here on the same day will simultaneously observe the National Health Insurance Month celebration which falls every February of the year as specified in Presidential Proclamation No. 1400, Paigan added.
Paigan noted that the province of Southern Leyte has positively responded in providing health insurance among its constituents and even more than doubled in its enrollment of indigent families in 2008 from 1,024 to 2,635 total indigent families now carrying PhiliHealth cards made possible by providing the provincial government's counterpart in the payment of premiums for this year.
While, the LGU of Hinunangan shall be awarded for enrolling the biggest number of additional indigents among the local government units in the province, he further disclosed.
With Oplan Universal Coverage, PhilHealth will campaign for more members to be enrolled in the health insurance in the province. It has five programs, namely: Employed Sector, Individually Paying, Non-Paying, Overseas Workers, and the Sponsored or Indigent program, he said. (PIA) [top]
