DOH campaigns for healthy lifestyle to the max
Tacloban City (13 February) -- The Department of Health is set to launch the Healthy Lifestyle to the Max on February 16 in line with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's Executive Order No. 958 declaring 2005 - 2015 as the Decade of Healthy Lifestyle
EO 958 was issued in December of 2005 as part of President Arroyo's commitment for the prevention and control of cardiovascular and other related diseases.
The executive order directs the Department of Health (DOH) to organize all concerned sectors of the government and civil society to conduct activities that would promote healthy lifestyle.
It would be noted that topping the causes of death in the Philippines is Cardiovascular Disease or CVD which is attributed to unhealthy lifestyle like smoking and too much intake of salty and fatty foods. Other risk factors for such ailment also include physical inactivity, excessive alcohol intake, hypertension, stress and obesity.
DOH is embarking on an intensified Healthy Lifestyle to the Max campaign to bring forth the clarion call of the alarming situation.
DOH is encouraging everyone to change their way of life to one that is healthy, to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, observe proper nutrition, minimize intake of alcohol and maintain a smoke-free environment. Regular visit to the doctor is also encouraged for early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
For more information about Healthy Lifestyle to the Max, the public is invited to go to the People's Center on February 16 at 8:00 o'clock in the morning to 12:00 o'clock noon.
