RDC 8 meeting tackles development goals for Eastern Visayas in 2009
Tacloban City (13 February) -- The members of the Regional Development Council of Region 8 is set to meet today at the NEDA Conference Room, to continue to map the development path for Eastern Visayas in 2009.
RDC Chairman and Calbayog City Mayor Mel Senen S. Sarmiento informed that the Council will tackle not only the RDC Accomplishment Report for 2008 but more importantly, the 2009 Work Program of the RDC and the sectoral committees.
The RDC will also tackle the RDC 8 Score Cards to assess the accomplishments of the Sectors and to present the Score Cards for this year, of the various sectoral committees.
Among the agenda during the meeting, are the One Visayas Arts Festival and Climate Change Forum which are scheduled to be held in Cebu City on March 1-9, 2009. The activity is a joint undertaking of the Regional Development Councils of Regions 6, 7 and 8.
Also among the major agenda is the proposed Port Zone Delineation of the Port of San Jose, Northern Samar.
Also scheduled to be discussed are the matters arising from the previous meeting such as the clarification on the procedure of bringing to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration Office, those arrested on drug-related crimes, from outside of Tacloban City.
Department of Agriculture Director Leo P. Caneda who is the chairman of the Economic Development Committee, is also expected to report on the status of the created Regional Tourism Coordinating Committee.
On the other hand, DBM Director Imelda C. Laceras who is the chairperson of the Development Administration Committee, is scheduled to report on the Advocacy on the Search for the "Galing RDC-Member Award" and the proposed changes in the releases of RDC funds.
The RDC 8, through NEDA Director Buenaventura Go-Soco, will also report on the conduct of the Best RDC Website, the Technical Working Group Housing Statistics, and the Regional Project Monitoring. (PIA 8) [top]
