PGMA North Cotabato visit tackles environment, peace dialogue

Kidapawan City (13 February) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo pursues peace in Mindanao and environmental protection in her visit to this city on North Cotabato February 13.

The President will inspect the composting facility plant for biodegradable waste in Barangay Binoligan, Kidapawan City where she will be briefed by Kidapawan City Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco about the programs implemented by the city government under the Solid Waste Management and Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) XII Regional Director Datu Tongco Saikol on the implementation of environmental program of the province.

The government of North Cotabato implemented Republic Act No. 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 that provides ecological solid waste management program to protect the environment including the establishment of Provincial/City Solid Waste for social and economic benefits like organic fertilizer or oil conditioner for its economic enterprise and creation of additional jobs for the people.

The President will then proceed to the Provincial Capitol Building in Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City to attend the briefing on responsible waste management by DENR Usec Gerochi that will highlight the status of implementation of Ecological Solid Waste Management (RA9003) of the province.

Presidential Adviser for Climate Change Heherson Alvarez will also give the weekly report on climate change to the President together with the other government officials.

President Arroyo will lead the peace dialogue together with Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Avelino Razon who will give the updates on the peace process in Mindanao which will be attended by representatives from local government units (LGUs), business sector, church group and Bishop-Ulama Conference, district representative and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officials and Philippine National Police (PNP) Area Commanders.
