Tacloban City (February 16) -- A women entrepreneurship summit will highlight this year's Women's Month Celebration, Chairperson Myrna Yao of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women informed.

Dubbed as "Go Negosyo: Babae Yaman Ka ng Bayan," the women summit which will be held on March 2, 2009 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, is a collaboration between the NCRFW and the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship.

The title of the activity is in keeping with this year's Women's Month theme "Babae, Yaman Ka ng Bayan" and aims to spread the entrepreneurship advocacy among the Filipino women, Chairman Yao said.

This year's event is focused on championing women's economic rights by engaging women in micro-enterprise development. Considering the present global financial crisis, it is timely to tap half of the country's resource, the women, and create a gender-responsive environment to encourage and support them to venture into high-value and more meaningful economic activities and enterprise development.

Designed to be the biggest women's event of the year, the Summit will feature forums and lectures on a multitude of topics, from the "negosyo" basics, best marketing practices for small enterprises, entrepreneurial financial management, leadership styles, competitiveness in the export market, technology utilization, to tips and advice on the concerns that women entrepreneurs face like health and wellness, fitness, family life and work balance.

On March 2, 2009 at the World Trade Center, Filipinas who ventured into the world of business and improved their quality of life despite the numerous challenges they faced, will be present.

The audience will have the chance to be mentored by some of the country's most respected women entrepreneurs as the book entitled Go Negosyo: Joey Concepcion's 55 Inspiring Stories of Women Entrepreneurs, will be launched.

Government officials from all levels, women senators, department secretaries, governors, congresswomen, mayors and barangay captains, will discuss how they plan to help women micro small and medium-scale entrepreneurs.

There will also be booths and exhibitors that will showcase different products and services for women consumers.

NCRFW and PCE joined efforts to give inspiration to Filipino women and to promote an optimistic and entrepreneurial culture among Filipinos.

PCE has been successful in holding Go Negosyo caravans in key cities in the country where they held lectures, expos and forums on the basics of entrepreneurship.

Chairman Yao said, the NCRFW continues with its advocacy anchored on the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) emphasizing the state's obligation to respect, protect, and fulfill women's rights in social, economic, political, civil and family spheres.
