Davao City (17 February) -- "HL to the Max" or the revitalized Healthy Lifestyle (HL) campaign was launched yesterday (February 16) as part of the nationwide launching led by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
The campaign aims to emphasize the need to maximize healthy lifestyle. This is in line to prevent risk factors that give rise to the incidence of four chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes.
Region XI noted that lifestyle-related diseases are the leading causes of deaths in the past three years. These are cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, heart diseases, diseases of the digestive system, arteries, arteriols, and capillaries.
This has pushed the health department to re-package the healthy lifestyle campaign into "HL to the Max". Also, health officials and workers are now endorsing seven health practices such as not smoking, not drinking alcohol, no to illegal drugs, eating low fat, low salt, and high fiber diet, hypertension prevention, doing physical activities, and managing stress.
As part of its launching program, DOH has enjoined all national government agencies, NGOs, academe, and the private sector for an easy-to-learn dance-exercise for all ages, and for all body mass-index.
Part of the launching was the free screening of blood pressure, with the help of student nurses in Davao City. (PIA XI) [top]
