7,877 Antique senior citizens avail of "Katas ng VAT-Handog kay Lolo at Lola"

San Jose, Antique (17 February) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development Office released a total of P3, 938,500.00 as a subsidy to 7,877 senior citizens-beneficiaries of "Katas ng VAT-Handog kay Lolo at Lola".
Lazaro Petinglay Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer said that schedule of releases in different municipalities in the province were already set to give "lolos and lolas" one-time subsidy in the amount of P500.00 especially now that prices of some goods/medicines have gone up.
The town of Tobias Fornier has the highest number of beneficiaries with 1,065, followed by Hamtic with 734, Culasi – 673, Caluya-673 and Bugasong 662 senior citizens. All towns in the province have availed of the said subsidy.
The "Katas ng VAT-Tulong Para Kay Lolo at Lola" project is a one-time cash subsidy of P500 for qualified senior citizens to be funded through revenues generated from the expanded value added tax or EVAT collection, said Petinglay.
DSWD report further revealed that the project is being implemented nationwide by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in coordination with the local government units and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs.
Under this project, beneficiaries must be 70 years old and above, dependent or belonging to a family whose income is within or below the poverty threshold per area and not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Social Security System (SSS) or any private or government agency retirement benefits.
Claimants or their representatives are advised to present a valid identification card that indicates the date of birth of the senior citizen, DSWD reported
