DOT to hold "Environment Security on Tourism" seminar

Negros Occ. (17 February) -- The Office of the Undersecretary for Security and Political Affairs, Department of Tourism (OUSECSPA-DOT) in cooperation with the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) and Haribon Foundation will be holding a two-day Conference-Workshop on The Environmental Security on Tourism (TEST) in connection with the Safety of Tourist Operational Program or STOP at the Bacolod Business Inn, Bacolod City on 24-25 February 2009.

TEST aims to turn the threat of tourism into opportunities by promoting responsible travel to areas focused on environmental protection and promotion of well-being of community, DOT Undersecretary for Security and Political Affairs Salvador Sarabia Jr., said.

"We are involving selected local government units (LGUs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the formulation of policies and identification of concerns that shall strengthen the destination and enhance the image of the country as a safe, convenient and comfortable place to visit." He added.

The objective of the project is to reduce the threat of dwindling resources by holding seminar-workshops in tourism business development that will enable stakeholders to engage in economic activities.

It also aims to improve the environment and to identify problems facing the tourism and environment sectors in the community and generate recommendations that will translate to an institutionalized action plan. (DOT-PIA Negros Occ.-LOL) [top]
