Cagayan de Oro City (17 February) -- Maj. Gen. Ricardo A. David, Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Philippine Army, has called on the men and women of his unit to keep the soldiers' honor intact, knowing that at the end of the day it is their integrity and dignity as soldiers and servants that matter.
To do this, we only have to remind ourselves of our unrelenting vigilance and abide by the rules and regulations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), since it is our role, first and foremost, to protect the people and serve the public. And we can only do this with our conscientious obedience to the Constitution, the laws of the land and the chain of command," he told them during the 4ID's 39th Founding Anniversary, recently.
David also told his troops that in the performance of their duty, they must always show respect for human rights and dignity of the people and the duly constituted civilian authority, since it is for their protection that the AFP and 4ID, the so-called "Diamond" Division, exist.
Diamond troopers should refrain from inimical behavior and acts that annihilate our people from our cause. At all times, we must strive to be honorable because only then can we say that all our sacrifices for the service as soldiers have all been for a good cause and that gallantry and courage should be complemented by discipline and proper bearing.
Meanwhile, David assured the people that 4ID will always be there when needed, be it during rescue and relief operations or in providing security to protect their lives and defend their liberty as they shall always be their constant shield and defender.
He also called on the government line agencies, local government units and all public servants like him to work together in the fight against insurgency and bring peace and security in our communities because it is only through the eradication of lawlessness and establishment of peace and stability that we can bring the necessary environment of development and prosperity in our society.
"It is only through our solidarity and unity that we can achieve the elusive dream of better life and future for us all. Sa atong tanan padayon sa pakighiusa alang sa kalinaw ug kalambuan sa Mindanao (To all of us, let us continue to unite for the peace and progress of Mindanao)," David added. (PIA 10) [top]
