Tagalog News: PGMA lalagdaan ang Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008

Manila (17 February) -- Nakatakdang lagdaan ngayong araw (Feb. 17) ng Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ang Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008 sa isang simpleng seremonya sa Malacaņang.

Ang bagong batas Republic Act (RA) No. 9520 ay mag-aamenda sa 1990 Cooperative Code of the Philippines o RA No. 6938.

Ang bagong cooperative legislation ay magbibigay sa mga cooperatives ng maraming opportunities upang makatulong sa kanilang mga miyembro hindi lamang sa financial assistance kundi pati na rin ang pagkakaroon ng productive activities na naglalayong maisulong ang upliftment ng kanilang mga miyembro.

Ayon sa ulat ng Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) ang bilang ng cooperatives na mai-rehistro simula noong 1990 ay 4,812 savings at credit; 1,409 producers cooperatives; 911 marketing cooperatives; 1,806 service cooperatives ng power distribution, potable water at irrigation system, public at private transportation services at mahigit 60,000 ang nakapag-register sa agriculture at non-agriculture cooperatives.

Ang buong cooperative sector ay nakapag-generate ng 1,636 million na trabaho noong taong 2006, 1,563 million na trabaho noong taong 2005 at 1,492 million na trabaho noong taong 2004. (KAlbay/PIA 12) [top]
