Dagupan ready to host regional sports meet – DepEd

By Danny O Sagun

Dagupan City (18 February) -- The city schools division here in coordination with the city government is in the thick of preparations for the Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) meet starting Monday, February 23.

"We are now ready," said Dr. Aurora Domingo, schools superintendent, this morning at the Kapihan sa Lenox Hotel sponsored by the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club. She said opening ceremonies will be held at the People's Astrodome in barangay Tapuac on Sunday, February 22.

Domingo said some events will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center and at the PNP provincial headquarters at the capital town of Lingayen.

She said the division with the help of the city government has also prepared their athletes well in terms of training and supervision. "We'll give our best shot," she said when asked if the city division being the host would top the field.

IRAA consists of the school divisions in the four provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan and the city divisions of Laoag, Vigan, San Fernando, San Carlos, Alaminos, Urdaneta and Dagupan. Pangasinan is divided into two school divisions because of its size.

Domingo, meanwhile, belied claims that students from various schools in the city were required to provide beddings for the delegates of the annual sports meet. "It was not compulsory …We only asked for help from the different sectors," she clarified, referring to the requests for assistance made from concerned sectors.

She said that the division and the city government, although faced with fund lack, tried their best to prepare well for this year's meet especially on billeting and provision of needed facilities like shower rooms and beddings. (PIA Pangasinan) [top]
