Roxas City (18 February) -- A Philippines-Korea Economic Forum opens February 18 here, gathering business top honchos and potential investors to showcase the favorable investment climate in the country as part of the 60th anniversary celebration of the Philippines–Korea diplomatic relations this year.
President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo will be the keynote speaker of the two-day forum entitled "Rediscovering the Philippines: The Pearl of Asia" at the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel.
Other upcoming events for this year's commemoration of the Phil-Kor diplomatic relations are the Philippine-Korean Friendship night of the 34th International Bamboo Organ Festival on Feb. 24, at the Las Piñas Church and the Korean Food Festival at the Manila Hotel on March 3.
Other events during the year are the Korean Drama and Film week in May and an RP-ROK University Basketball competition in July. In November, the events include the Korean Film Festival, RP-ROK Cultural Festival, and the RP-ROK Economic Forum in Seoul, Korea.
The Philippines became the fifth country to recognize South Korea when diplomatic ties were established on March 3, 1949.
The bilateral relationship has since grown from a purely military collaboration to a wide-ranging partnership that covers political-security, development cooperation, economic and socio-cultural matters. (PIA) [top]
