Davao City (19 February) -- Recently named by Bankers Magazine as the Finance Minister for Asia, Finance Secretary Margarito Teves and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Atty. Sixto Esquivias IV are expected to arrive here on Davao City this Friday (February 20, 2009) to grace the kick-off tax campaign in the region.
BIR No. 19 regional director Nestor Valeroso said "it's tax campaign season and we have invited our top officials: Secretary Teves and Commissioner Esquivias IV to be with us during this momentous event."
A citywide motorcade is scheduled on Friday at 8:30am to start at the Davao Convention Center (DavCon) followed by a simple Recognition program for the four (4) Top Taxpayers of the Revenue District Office of the region for 2008.
Together with ARD Atty. Nuzar N. Balatero and Revenue District Officer, Jose Eric Furia, who heads the RDO in Davao region, we will give due recognition to top taxpayers for having contributed to the over-all compliance and collection performance of each of the district offices, Director Valeroso said.
In answer to a query, Director told the Davao mediamen that the goal of the BIR throughout the country is about P856-billion and one percent of this is assigned as target goal for Davao region or an estimated of P8.56-billion.
There is no turning back and we want to achieve this target goal for the benefit of our countrymen and for the financial welfare of our country, Director Valeroso said.
I think one of the solutions to neutralize the financial crisis as a result of the Global recession is the efficient collection of taxes for purposes of using it to pump-prime our economy, he further said.
Director Valeroso said that the BIR regional office will start implementing the Memorandum Order of BIR Commissioner Esquivias, RMO 3-2009 tagged as "OPLAN KANDADO" which might result to foreclosure of business establishments if found to be intentionally understating their sales, underdeclaration of tax payments, among others.
The BIR regional office and all RDOs in the region will have an information drive regarding "OPLAN KANDADO" to provide correct information to the public specifically the taxpayers, he said. (BIR/PIA XI/RBPalacio) [top]
