PGMA visits Davao anew

Davao City (19 February) -- Fresh from her recent visit to Sasa Wharf in Davao City last February 13, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo returns to Davao anew to tour prospective investors and meet up with beneficiaries of its Government programs.
The President will be having a private luncheon with investors from Thailand and China at the world-famous Pearl Farm Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal where she is expected to pitch in the investment potentials of the island.
After lunch at around 1 p.m. the President accompanied by Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap is set to bring the Thai and Chinese investors to the nearby Samal Mariculture Park. The investment tour is meant to showcase the investment opportunities in the Park which is a project of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
She is also expected to meet the beneficiaries of the Mariculture Park which was created to address the diminishing livelihood opportunities of fishermen dependent on the dwindling capture fisheries.
At present the Park's mariculture operations as of 2008 is utilizing 49 cages producing a total volume of 234,394 kilograms. In terms of employment, the project has generated 9,000 jobs for the direct services and 6,000 additional jobs for ancillary services.
At around 2:30 p.m. the President will return to Davao City, where she will attend an engagement hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment held at the Apo View Hotel.
During the evening the President is scheduled to meet up with 50 Social Security System beneficiaries during a dinner at the Presidential Guesthouse located in the Department of Public Works and Highways Depot compound.
The President is expected to follow-up on the SSS Housing loan condonation and restructuring program instituted in 2007 and will last until this year 2009. (PIA XI) [top]
