To welcome the President are North Cotabato Provincial Governor Jesus Sacdalan, Makilala Mayor Onofre Respicio, 1st District Representative Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza, 2nd District Representative Bernardo Piñol, DPWH Usec for Mindanao Romeo Momo, DPWH-XII Regional Director Sinaolan Macarambon, PNP Regional Director C/Supt Fidel Cimatu, Jr., EastMinCom Commander M/Gen Raymundo Ferrer, 6th ID Commanding General M/Gen Alfredo Cayton, Brgy. Saguing Chairman Rricardo Canete, Poblacion Brgy. Chairman Rene Molina, Mr & Mrs. Elpidio Rodriguez the owners of the lot affected in the construction of the project.

DPWH XII Director Macarambon is expected to brief the President about the new project in the area which was funded by the government with a total cost of P45 million. The construction of the said project started April 8, 2007 and was completed last March 30, 2008.

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XII the project was built in order to minimize the number of accidents which occurred in the highway as the old existing route due to its double blind curve. Malaang Bridge will shorten the travel distance from Cotabato to Davao City and even in different municipalities and cities in the province.

This will also hasten the traffic flow along Makilala-Kidapawan roads, caused by accidents; thus avoiding delays among commuters and transport of goods.

Along with this, DPWH is also requesting additional fund worth P20 million to concrete the approaches of said bridge.

The completion of the whole project will help speed up the socio-economic development in the area in accordance with President Arroyo's 10 Point Agenda to create employment opportunities and generate more income for the people of Cotabato province. (ABB/PIA 12) [top]
