By Faisal Saddalani, ICIO

Isabela City de Basilan (19 February) -- A seven (7) year old boy, Alson Porticos was kidnapped by two suspected kidnappers riding in a Honda XR 200R motorcycle at around 12:45pm Tuesday just 50 meters from the City Government of Isabela and 20 meters away from his home when about to attend school with his sister.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that one suspected kidnapper pretended to buy cell-phone load near the residence of the Porticos in Barangay Sunrise, Isabela City, which after sighting the prospect immediately pointed a gun to the family driver with his 9mm caliber pistol while forcibly snatched Alson Porticos to the nearest companion waiting outside with motorcycle.

The victim is the son of Development Bank Basilan Branch Manager Lynnette B. Porticos and former Land Bank of the Philippines employee, Albert Porticos.

According to the relatives, the couple has already been receiving threats from the suspected kidnappers for about a couple of months, but, this was not taken seriously by them.

Based on the information relayed by concerned citizen to Mayor Cherrylyn Santos Akbar who called the Isabela City Police, which the team together with Marine Batallion Landing Team 1 (MBLT1) and Regional Mobile Group(RMG) 9 headed by Chief Inspector Noel V. Samong swiftly followed the route of the kidnappers beeping up all checkpoint station to block the possible exit points.

Fleeing towards Lamitan highway, the kidnappers shot the Marine checkpoint at the crossing of Barangays Baluno and Panunsulan, Isabela City and held Alcon Porticos, who is laden between the kidnappers on the motorcycle as hostage, trying to unblock the CAFGU checkpoint at Maloong, Lamitan.

After being cornered at Sitio Tinog, Lamitan and exchanged of gunfire from the responding team and reinforcement of Lamitan Police, one kidnapper identified as Muhmin, allegedly a native of Tuburan Municipality, Basilan was fatally injured that sustained gunshot wound at the stomach, while his companion, the driver of the motorcycle managed to escape, but was later neutralized by pursuing security forces.

Alcon Porticos who was safely rescued is comforted with their family and relatives at their residence. The captured kidnapper was immediately brought to the Basilan Community Hospital in Isabela City and thereafter died while receiving medical attention.

The motorcycle which has a plate number JT 2461 was momentarily impounded at the Isabela City Police Station pending investigation to hatch other possible persons involved in this kidnapping incident.

In a recent radio interview, Mayor Cherrylyn Santos Akbar had announced that she will be giving out of her personal fund One Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 100,000.00) as reward to those who can lead the arrest of the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, just an hour preceding the kidnapping of Alson Porticos, the Office of the City Mayor, headed the consultation to all Barangay Tanods, CVOs and CAFGUs and the Barangay Officials for the establishment of Community Watch and Network Informant that helps the military and police in the information gathering and providing security to their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Among the top concern of the Barangay Officials is to allow them to carry firearms to help the authority in curtailing against any form of perpetrators and make Isabela City free from the spate of kidnappings. (PIA-BASULTA) [top]
