Plan Philippines conducts "Learn Without Fear" regional campaign to end violence vs children in school

Tacloban City (February 20) -- Plan Philippines, an international child-centered non-government organization working in 66 countries worldwide, is set to conduct a regional campaign dubbed as "Learn without Fear" today, 9:00 a.m. at Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City.

Aimed at ending violence against children in the school, the Learn without Fear is Plan's contribution to the global efforts to protect children from physical, sexual and mental abuse in schools which are supposed to be places of safety for children. The campaign will also build on the impetus created by the UN Secretary General's study on Violence against Children in 2006.

Tootch D. dela Cruz, technical support supervisor of Plan Philippines said that Plan believes that Filipino children will learn better and will be more productive under a school environment that is free from threats and harm.

"Learn without Fear aims to empower every child to claim their right to a more promising future through good education, within an institution where all they have to worry about is how to maximize their opportunities and where they can truly enjoy being kids," says Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, a mother-advocate and Child's Rights Ambassador of Plan Philippines.

During the regional campaign, Plan Philippines will also present the findings of the research entitled "Toward a Child-Friendly School Environment: A Baseline survey on Violence Against Children in Schools which was conducted by the Philippine School of Social Work of the Philippine Women's University. The research was done in partnership with the Council for the Welfare of Children.

Video documentaries and public service announcements produced by children will also be shown and aired during the Regional Campaign which will be attended by regional and provincial partners and education stakeholders from Plan covered communities. (PIA 8) [top]
