Bacolod out-of-school youths undergo technical training
Bacolod City (20 February) -- The Bacolod city government in support of the needy and the out-of-school youths sponsored 195 juveniles' skills training in various institutions here.
More than P346, 000 was spent for their technical training in the following centers: welding, baking –St. Ezekiel Moreno Training School, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Repair- TUP, Talisay, Basic Computer- Negros Federation of Sugar Planters (NFSP), Cellphone Repair –Sum-ag Gym and Information Technology- Bacolod City college.
Meanwhile, DSSD attended to 907 youths as their clients last year who were either seeking assistance or were organized in their communities in preparation for civic activities.
They were involved in the following social welfare programs: Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), capability building, community participation and volunteerism, counseling, case management, family re-integrationi, family dialogue and socio cultural and recreational activity.
The city recognizes the role of the young citizens in building a better society and they are most ready to participate in this democratic process if they are empowered through skills and in other programs that enhance their growth.
On the national level, President Gloria M. Arroyo's administration has acknowledged the strength of the youths by enjoining them in the government's quest for economic recovery.
The government has embarked on massive skills development program to enable them to showcase the Filipinos' dexterity in many technical disciplines and for which the country was made famous worldwide. (PIA-LOL) [top]
