Capiz readies for foundation anniversary

Roxas City (20 February) -- Preparations for the 108th foundation anniversary of Capiz this coming April 15 have begun.

Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro held a consultative meeting with representatives of the local media community last week to elicit their support to the celebration which commemorates the establishment of the Capiz civil government on April 15, 1901.

With Tesoro was Edward Basilonia, chief of the Capiz Provincial Press Bureau.

Tesoro said the event will focus on governance especially at the provincial government level, its milestones and best practices.

One of its highlights will be the inauguration of new projects implemented by the administration of Gov. Victor Tanco in line with his governance and development battlecry, "Pag-ulikid: Labi sa Tanan ang Tawo."

The event will also showcase the recognition of Capiceņos who have done outstanding deeds in their respective fields of endeavor. The awarding ceremony was done before during the celebration of Sinadya sa Halaran, Capiz's premier cultural and religious festival.

Tesoro said they are also considering other activities that would give added meaning and color to the celebration on April 13-15.

April 15 also marks the death anniversary of Capiz's most illustrious son, Manuel Acuņa Roxas, first President of the Philippine Republic. The occasion is a special non-working holiday in the province and this city.

The former president is the grandfather of incumbent Senator Manuel Araneta Roxas II. (PIA-JSC) [top]
