DPWH steps up job generation
Iloilo City (20 February) -- The global economic crisis is no hindrance to the government's effort to step up its job generation as the Department of Public Works and Highways 6 (DPWH 6) is set to conduct a job fair on February 23, 2009.
About 9,000 job positions will be made available in this job fair which will be conducted at the DPWH 6 Compound at Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City starting 8:00 o' clock in the morning on February 23, 2009.
Among the positions open are civil engineers, material engineers, foreman, surveyors, masons, carpenters, heavy equipment operators and other related positions.
Applicants are advised to bring their application together with their supporting documents such as bio-data, ID pictures, PRC licenses (for professionals), and Certificate of Employment (if any), NBI and police clearances and others.
DPWH 6 Director Rolando Asis said this job generation effort of the department aims to counter the negative effects of the global economic slowdown and recession by providing opportunities and employment for efficient, competent, deserving, skilled professional workers.
Hired applicants will be assigned in the various infrastructure projects of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
"The effort is also in line with the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program of the President that provides emergency employment for the poor, returning expatriates, workers in the export industry and out-of school youth in anticipation of the adverse effects of the global economic crisis," said Asis.
He added that through the activity the DPWH 6 will serve as a conduit between the contractors and the job applicants for the prosecution of infrastructure projects intended to spur economic growth in the region.
"The DPWH will assess the job seekers capabilities and work assignments based on their educational background and related experiences," said Asis. (PIA) [top]
